Abstract and Full Paper / Poster Submission Guidelines

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION (Online submission system will only open on 15 April 2016)

The Paper Committee invites you to submit your abstract for the PCF8 Conference. Abstracts should be written concisely and clearly (in English, the official language of the event) and in not more than 300 words. Abstracts are to be submitted online

Please read and follow the instructions below before submitting your abstract.

 

Before Submission

Please ensure that you have carefully reviewed the theme and sub-theme descriptions, and submit your abstract for only one sub-theme. You will be asked to indicate your chosen sub-theme at the abstract submission stage (see Step 4 below). The abstract must convey the [spacing] importance and relevance of the topic to the conference theme.

 

How to Make Your Submission

NOTE: Each abstract may only be submitted once.

Please go through the following steps to submit your abstract:

Step 1:  Register and sign up for an account (go to Conference > Registration & Login).

Step 2:  Log in with your newly created username and password.

Step 3: Click on CALL FOR PAPERS and select SUBMIT ABSTRACT/PAPERS.

Step 4: Select a Sub-theme.

Step 5: Specify first author and co-authors (if any). Note that the first author will be the presenter of the paper.

*Note: First Author will be the presenter of the paper.

Step 6: Copy and Paste your abstract text directly into the Abstract Box. Your abstract must not exceed 300 words.

Step 7: Click on Submit button to complete the submission

 

NOTE:

1. In cases of multiple entries of the same abstract/paper submission, the latest entry will be selected/kept. All previous entries will be deleted without notification.

2. Upon submitting the abstract/paper, please ensure the following criteria are observed:

Criteria for abstracts:
  • The abstract is relevant to the sub-theme.
  • The abstract gives an overview of the paper.
  • The abstract explains the methodology used (or proposed to be used) for the research/case study.
  • The abstract indicates the result to be discussed or the significance/relevance of the paper.
  • The abstract is clear, unambiguous and is written in acceptable standard.

FULL PAPER SUBMISSION

All papers should be submitted online.  

Please make sure your paper meets the following requirements:

  1. The document must be saved in Microsoft Word (doc/docx/rtf/PDF).
  2. The font type and size must be Times New Roman, 10pt, in single-spaced format.
  3. The title must appear at the top of the first page.
  4. The paper must be between 3,000 and 4,000 words in length.
  5. The author’s (or authors’) name must not be shown (for the purposes of blind review).

 

How to Make Your Submission

Step 1: Log in at the conference site with your username and password.

Step 2: Click on CALL FOR PAPERS and select SUBMIT ABSTRACT/PAPERS.

Step 3: Select the appropriate sub-theme.

Step 4: Upload your paper.

Step 5: Click on Submit button. 

NOTE: Papers will be accepted for review only if they have not been presented or accepted for presentation at any professional meeting before, and are not currently under review for presentation at another professional meeting.

 

Paper Review Process for Acceptance

All papers will go through blind review by members of the Paper Review Committee.
The first author will be notified of the results of the review by 30 September 2016. Reviewers may make recommendations for improvement of a draft submission that has received preliminary acceptance. These recommendations must be adequately addressed by the author (or authors) to ensure final acceptance. For further enquiries, please contact the Conference Paper committee at pcf8@oum.edu.my.

Submission of Full Papers for Proceedings (Camera-Ready Format)

Papers accepted for the conference proceedings must be submitted online.

 

Submission Pre-requisites:

To increase the likelihood of your paper being accepted for inclusion in the conference proceedings, follow the Guidelines for Preparation of Full Paper for Proceedings. Here are the key points:

  • The paper must be an original contribution that has not been published before and is not being considered for publication elsewhere.
  • The paper must demonstrate sound research principles and include complete and adequate referencing (In accordance with APA style).
  • The paper must be between 3,000 and 4,000 words in length (excluding title and author details) and well written — that is, clearly structured to facilitate readability and free of spelling and grammatical mistakes.
  • Your paper must not contain third-party copyright content.
  • The name and credentials of the author (or authors) must be as they are to be published in the proceedings.
  • At least one author must be registered to attend the conference. NOTE: If paid conference registration is still incomplete by the last date for registration, the paper will not be included in the conference proceedings.

By submitting a paper, authors give consent for that paper and the authorship details to be featured in the conference proceedings.

The first author will be notified of the results of the review by 30 September 2016. Reviewers may make recommendations for improvement of a draft submission, authors must ensure that the revised (camera-ready) version of the paper adequately addresses reviewer comments. If this has not been done to the satisfaction of the Paper Review Committee, the paper may not be accepted for publication in the proceedings.

Authors must register and pay to attend the conference to present their papers (for papers that are accepted).

Papers that have been amended since acceptance can be presented at the conference as long as the revised papers are received by the deadline 17 October 2016 and conform to the format and length requirements.

Criteria for full paper:
• The paper is related to the sub-theme.
• The paper is complete, clear and well-organized.
• The significance, applicability and interest to the field (relevance beyond case presented) is clearly articulated.
• The problem is clearly described within a theoretical framework (where appropriate).
• The discussion of the results is accurate and useful.
• The paper uses sound argument and analysis.
• The conclusion describes implications for practitioners in learning for development practice.
• The paper uses an acceptable standard of English.
• The literature review demonstrates a clear relationship between the problem and learning for development and other relevant literature.
• The research design and methodology are appropriate for the study.

 


 

POSTER SUBMISSION

PCF8 invites submissions for the Poster Session, which is an integral part of the conference. Presenting a poster gives the presenter an opportunity to gain feedback on work that has not been published. The Poster Session provides an alternative for authors to share and present brief summaries of their work to all conference participants and attendees. It is required that at least one presenter per accepted poster attend the conference. NOTE: At least one presenter per accepted poster must be registered to attend the conference.

The Poster session will be held during the normal conference days and will have dedicated time slots. We encourage authors to share your ideas, work-in-progress, or projects that are related to the theme and sub-themes of the conference.

Poster submission proposals will be in the form of an abstract. Please submit your abstract online through our  Abstract Submission System.

Please review the guidelines for preparing your posters below.

Guidelines for Poster Design :

  • Posters should be readable by viewers viewers from 15 feet (5 metres) away.
  • Ensure that the message is clear and understandable without oral explanation.
  • Ensure that the poster presentation should focus on a few key points.
  • Use colour, headlines, and data presentation to communicate with clarity and simplicity.
  • Make sure that the important points stand out.
  • Try to balance between words and illustrations.
  • Avoid overloading the poster with too much information.
  • Use large fonts and a consistent font type and style throughout.
  • As appropriate, use arrows, pointing hands, numbers and letters may help highlight the sequence of the presentation.
  • The poster board available surface area is the size for A2 (as shown below).
  • Include the title, author's name, and affiliations on a strip above your poster.

Note that the available poster board surface area is A2 paper size (with dimensions as shown below).
