Conference Hall 2, 27 November: A collection of 20 books, reports and toolkits covering a wide range of topics were showcased during the launch of Commonwealth of Learning (COL) publications today.
A common theme covered in this year’s publications is information communication technology (ICT), more specifically Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), Open Educational Resources (OERs) and mobile learning resources.
In addition to this, guidelines on policy-related matters such as quality assurance and transnational qualifications framework were also published for the benefit of policy makers and ODL institutions. New issues on distance education were among the titles launched which focused on gender mainstreaming and the increasing importance of value for money in promoting open schooling.
In her speech, COL President and CEO Prof Asha Kanwar said since COL promotes learning for sustainable development, it needs to be “a learning organisation itself”. She added that people from around the world refer to COL’s website as a valuable online resource on Open and Distance Education particularly in the context of the Commonwealth setting.
